BooksPrice.com Launches 'RSS Price Watcher' - A New Approach for Price Comparison
New York, NY January 10th, 2007 – Shoppers now have a better way to watch for price drops for their wished books, DVDs, CDs or video games. BooksPrice.com (http://www.booksprice.com), a price comparison site, announced today a new approach for comparing prices of media items – tracing them using customizable RSS feeds.
RSS Feeds are usually used to publish digital content, such as blogs or news feeds, and becoming increasingly popular due to their adaptation by the main browsers (ie, Firefox) and personalized sites (including Google and Yahoo). However, thus far, they were not utilized as a common way to compare prices of media items. The new approach introduced by BooksPrice.com turns RSS feeds into an excellent tool for shoppers, keeping them posted about price drops while freeing them from the need to constantly monitor the seller sites.
Using BooksPrice.com’s new ‘RSS Price Watcher’, users can 'subscribe' to a feed for any individual product by using a dedicated link supplied by BooksPrice; the RSS reader will automatically check the user's subscribed feeds to detect any price changes,, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user. Using the feed, the shopper can go directly to his or her chosen store and purchase the product.
Lucy Orbach, co-founder of BooksPrice.com explains that this is a major improvement for online shoppers. “Using BooksPrice.com’s ‘RSS Price Watcher’, users do not have to register or share their emails to get updates for their desired item, nor do they need to actively monitor the seller sites in continuous search of price variations. BooksPrice’s approach is much easier and hassle-free for users. The new approach uses the common Web 2.0 method for sharing information – RSS feeds. One of the best things about this approach is the ability to receive price updates on personalized portals and home pages on websites like Google, Yahoo, NetVibes and more”.
Lucy adds that the price alert can be customized by several parameters including filtering used books, adding shipping costs to any global destination and selecting a different price currency, so that users will truly be able to find the product they need at the right price.
BooksPrice.com, introduced in April 2005 with an innovative technique for comparing prices on multiple books simultaneously - as a more cost-efficient approach than standard one-item price comparison - now introduces this new concept as part of the current launch of its revamped Ajax-based site, significantly enhancing the site’s graphic design
